[CDFC] Re: Eagle Pack Dog Food

I didn't know the facts on these companies but thanks!
One of my rough collie males has done very well on EP Holistic Select for most of his life (5 years) but I had wanted to try him on a grain free formula with a higher % of protein (around 35%) and EP has no grain free formula in their holistic line. I have wondered why.

After a lot of comparing, I chose Wellness Core and Louie has done great on it for nearly 3 months. He is being shown a bit as a special, does performance sports and has light duty as a stud dog. I do use a coat supplement for all my collies but they seem to need more EFAs than many breeds.

I will be watching this company and the Wellness Core label hoping they do not change the formula. It remains more expensive than some other grain free kibbles but if it works for this one male, it is worth it to me. It is not as calorie dense as some of the grain free kibbles which is good for him as he is would be quite put out by a reduction in quantity. You know that "Please mum can I have some more look?"

Then late last year, Berwind purchased Old Mother Hubbard/Wellness Pet Food. In January, 2009, they announced that the two companies were being merged to form WellPet. The goal is to produce one line of formulas instead of the current two. Last fall Eagle Pack's management team was removed shortly after the purchase of OMH/Wellness. Then the office staff was let go and now sales reps are leaving right and left. Word is that their European Union certification is not going to be renewed and all overseas sales were recently stopped.

As erly as last summer I received several complaints on another board I belong to that flecks of corn were found in some EP Holistic food. At first EP denied it until the question was asked whether they continue to thoroughly clean the extrusion equipment between food runs since some of their cheaper foods contain corn. Also, they already changed their Prism formula by substituting chicken meal with chicken BY-PRODUCT meal.
