[Dog_Nutrition] Dr. Shawn's newsletter

Greetings Pet Lover!

Here is my pet care update for you.

*Be sure to listen to my award-winning radio
show, Dr. Shawn-The Natural Vet show, on Martha Stewart Radio
Sirius Channel 112 and NOW ON XM 157, live every Tuesday night at 7-8 PM
CST.  Tonight I'll be taking your calls
the entire hour.

*Check out my monthly columns on holistic pet care for Body
+ Soul, Animal Wellness, Dog Fancy, and Dog World.

*My latest book, Unexpected
Miracles, will be released in August! This book, my favorite to date,
contains true stories of pets unable to be helped with conventional medicine,
that miraculously healed using integrative medicine. Over the next few months,
I'll share a few of these wonderful, heartwarming stories with you.

*Here is a great question recently asked by one of the
listeners of my radio show....

Dear Dr. Shawn: At what age should we stop vaccinating
our dog?  He is a 12-year-old Labrador
and I don't see any reason to continue to give him his yearly shots.  Thanks for your advice.  Annie

Dr. Shawn says…. As I told Annie, dogs and cats do not
need annual vaccinations.  Doing so does
not increase a pet's protection against infectious diseases, and can certainly
cause unwanted adverse immunological reactions such as autoimmune diseases and
cancers.  In my practice, I do a blood
antibody titer test which costs about $55-$60.
The results of these tests dictate whether or not a pet needs a vaccine
that year.  In most cases, vaccines last
5, 10, or even 20 years, which means pets rarely receive immunizations after 2
years of age.  Additionally, older pets
such as Annie's Labrador are really too old to continue receiving
vaccines.  Since the incidence of cancer
increases with age, and since vaccines can be linked to cancer, I don't
vaccinate older pets.

is now number one on Google and Yahoo under the search term "natural pet care."
Thanks so much for all of your support!

Thanks to Erica Gorsuch for this joke:

Q. Why did the cowboy want to buy a dachshund?

A. (Said with a southern drawl) He wanted to get a long little

doggie.
