schedule….

*Be
sure to listen to my award-winning radio show, Dr. Shawn-The Natural Vet show, on Martha
Stewart Radio Sirius Channel 112 and NOW ON XM 157, live every Tuesday night at
7-8 PM CST.  Tonight I'll be talking with actress and animal activist Tippi Hedren.

*My latest
book, Unexpected Miracles, will be

pets unable to be helped with conventional medicine, that miraculously healed
using integrative medicine. Over the next few months, I'll share a few of these
wonderful, heartwarming stories with you.

*My website, www.petcarenaturally.com, is now

so much for all of your support!

*Dear Dr.
Shawn:My dog was tested for allergies using the VARL Liquid Gold Serum test. He
tested positive for many inhalant allergies as well as food
allergies. I wanted to know your opinion on this testing and its
accuracy. I do not believe he is allergic to all the foods that the test says
he is and I have read that the accuracy of this test for food allergies is not
always correct but others say it is. With your work with animals and allergies
I would be very interested in what you think. Much appreciated, Katherine

You are
correct that the reliability of this test is not very good. In fact, it's
usually worthless. While there are coincidences, using blood tests to detect
food allergies is not accepted by veterinary dermatologists, even though many
general practitioners love to use the test and sell expensive food that is not
healthy for your pet. The only reliable way to diagnose food allergies, which
is a very rare cause of itching (I've diagnosed 1 case in my entire life!) is
with a food elimination trial that takes 2-3 months. Most likely your dog has
environmental allergies. You can find out lots of great ways to help your pet
in my book, The Allergy Solution for Dogs.

Keep Your
Pets Healthy!
