[Dog_Nutrition] fat percent for senior dog
Hello,
At what age is a dog considered a senior? I read in Whole dog journal that after 7 they should have protein higher and fat lower than a younger dog. I have a 2 year old Mini Schnauzer and a 7 year old westie. I am thinking of wellness Core for the younger and I wonder if the levels are ok for the older dog too? They eat wellness super 5 now but I want to eliminate the grains. The level of protein in super 5 is 22, fat 12. Core is 33 protein and fat 14 do you think that is too high? Perhaps the younger could have the Core ( she always seems hungry on the super 5 mix)and I can find another grain free for the 7 year old. Home cooking is not an option for me now, and the younger had problems on raw.
Also, any recommendations for grain free kibble. if the Core is not good for older dog? I know the diet may have to be different for each dog. The 7 year hates the super 5 now, she used to eat it but she is a picky eater. Does anyone know if California natural or taste of the wild have on recall list? Also they seem to like Honest Kitchen but I have read the flax is not well tolerated and all types of Honest Kitchen have flax!!?? but that is a popular food?? So confusing!!
Suggestions are needed and welcomed!
Thanks in advance!
Rosie S.
